Steps II (A Triolet)
By Michael T Smith
For still our steps move on and on,
Marching to our wayward heartbeats,
Keeping the tempo of the sun --
For still our steps move on and on
Until the brittle break of dawn
Taking the filth off the streets,
For still our steps move on and on,
Marching to our wayward heartbeats.

Michael T. Smith is an Associate Professor of English who teaches both writing and film courses. He has published roughly 300 pieces (poetry and prose) in over 100 different journals.
