Love- F r a c t u r e d Beings
By Athira Sadanand

You hum the song of your wounds in sleep...

stifled moans and grunts of your   b r o k e n   lovemakings with Pain.

In the dark....I hear her gnawing on your thighs,

skin peeled and bones   c r a c k i n g..

Slowly... She is all over you,

sipping the red from your torn flesh…

But I hold your left arm, warming the frost on our   w e d d i n g  ring,

inhaling the antiseptic off your blood-stained fingertips.

I am  n e a r   you.

But, the spent Fentanyl patch on your chest makes her closer to you than I am.

I dissolved into a spider that weaves gauze,

wrapping and hiding your seeping cuts from her scorching gaze.

feeding you my weary   l o v e , scraping your wounds clean of its tears,

and weathering her rage each day.

Sometimes, I feel her more than you.

chewing me in silence, knitting us together

with  invisible threads torn from our souls and eating us both   a l i v e...

But in the fleeting pauses between her breaths,

the indeliberate mercy of finding each other,

we leave the splinters of love, to prick their way into   m e m o r y.
