1919
By Colin Connor
The motor cars yellow eyed through yellow fog
the gassed lungs and amputtees crowd for soup
Officers selling bootlaces, matches
the pregnant munitions worker stained
Yellow by toluene
the Silvertown unemployed shell fillers
and the scullery maids let go, to bob
and jitterbug in to mother's ruin
on the rebound from sweethearts lost
to sight on Somme or Passchendaele
the lost provinces regain their losses
as the white bleeds into the red
Patriarch blesses and is abolished
as the tiger stalks Versailles, gnaws
his tobacco- stained taches signs the Armistice as the diamonds sparkle Izvestia mines.

Colin Connor loves reading and writing poetry.
