Inheritance of Sky
By Mandavi Choudhary
They asked me
to wear the sky
without its vastness.

To become blue enough
to soothe,
small enough
to possess.

But the sky
has never belonged
to those
who measured it.

She keeps
breaking into light,
undoing every border
stitched across her body.

I have learned
from her grammar.

Clouds do not apologise
for becoming storms.

Horizons do not ask
where they may end.

Neither will I.

I was never made
to fit beneath the sky.

I was made

to inherit

its impossible expanse.
