Garden Sanctuary
By Susan L. Pollet
Kneeling in the dirt, digging the holes,
planting the seeds, covering them over,
it was a process dreamed about when
ordering from the catalogue in the winter,
planning for months the position of the
plants, the color combinations, the heights
of each, once they grew, lugging the big
stones surrounding, making an oasis for
their growth
It combined all the painterly skills
of composition, color, texture, line
in real time— art in motion, art off the page,
something to look forward to that is growth,
looming large right outside the window
in a garden of ambitions and yearnings,
whatever chaos lurks elsewhere
