holding hands

like we used to

rekindled love

            at tea time rainbows

            orbit the chandelier

hearts drawn

in the sand…

incoming tide

           Cupid’s secrets

           the usual suspects—

           wine and chocolate

her red rose lipstick

only worn once a year

           new magnolia buds

           sketched by the moon

           onto lace curtains

Garry Gay, is the creator of the poetic form, Rengay. He has been a photographer by profession for the past 40 years. He started writing haiku in 1975. Greatly influenced by Basho’s Narrow Road To The Deep North, he has steadily written haiku over the past 30 years. He is one of the co-founders of the Haiku Poets of Northern California. He became their first president from 1989-90 and in 2001-2008 again served as president. As president in 1989 he founded the Two Autumns haiku reading series.  He is the author of The Billboard Cowboy, The Silent Garden, Wings of Moonlight, River Stones, Along The Way and The Unlocked Gate, published with John Thompson.

John Thompson is a renowned rengay poet .John collaborated on the first published chapbook of rengay, Hammerhorn Lake, with Garry Gay and Michael Dylan Welch in 1995. In 2008 John published another rengay book, The Unlocked Gate with Garry Gay. Although John has had many rengay published, publication is not the major reason he writes rengay.  Over the past three decades John has written hundreds of rengay with haiku writers around the globe.  John is most grateful for the poetic dialogues and relationships that naturally arose from rengay’s collaborative writing process.
